Thor Motor Coach Sanctuary 1st Gen

The Sanctuary is Thor Motor Coach's off-road Class B van, built on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with all-wheel drive. Thor Motor Coach is one of the largest RV manufacturers in North America, part of Thor Industries, and the Sanctuary is its entry in the adventure-van segment alongside corporate sibling Jayco's Terrain.

The Sanctuary is offered in compact 19-foot layouts, the 19L and the 19P, both on the all-wheel-drive Sprinter. The 19L places a fixed bed at the rear with the seating and galley moved forward; the 19P uses a rear bench that folds into a bed, which frees floor space and lowers the price. Both run the current Sprinter turbodiesel and a 9-speed automatic, and both are built around a lithium house-power system with a 3,000-watt inverter and solar charging.

The interior covers the expected adventure-van equipment. There is a galley, a wet bath, convertible sleeping space, and a freshwater tank of around 19 gallons. Thor positions the Sanctuary toward the comfort end of the off-road Class B field, with a finish and a feature list aimed at buyers who want the capability of an all-wheel-drive Sprinter without giving up a furnished, livable interior.

The Sanctuary competes with the Winnebago Revel, the Jayco Terrain, and the Storyteller MODE. Its place in that group is set by Thor's scale. The company's manufacturing volume and dealer coverage are larger than most of its rivals, which shapes pricing and availability more than any single feature on the van does.
