Storyteller Overland MODE 1st Gen

Storyteller Overland is an Alabama-based van builder, founded in 2018, that occupies the ground between a mass-market RV manufacturer and a one-off custom shop. It builds the MODE on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter in batches, with a fixed set of layouts rather than bespoke commissions, which keeps build quality consistent and wait times shorter than a custom conversion.

The MODE is what Storyteller calls its core Sprinter platform, and for 2026 the entire lineup moved to the all-wheel-drive Sprinter, replacing the previous 4x4 model and its V6 with the current 2.0-liter turbodiesel four. What sets the MODE apart from a mainstream Class B is the electrical system and the modularity. The higher trims carry a 16.8 kWh lithium system with a 3,000-watt inverter, among the largest house-power setups in any production van, and the interior is built around removable furniture and a rear garage so the same van works for sleeping, hauling, or both.

The lineup is organized into Classic, Beast, and Dark families, each offered in OG and XO sizes. Classic MODE covers the lighter, more affordable end. Beast MODE adds upgraded suspension and the largest power and water systems. Dark MODE pairs the off-grid hardware with blacked-out trim. All of them keep the AWD Sprinter's ground clearance and carry a wet bath, a galley, and convertible sleeping space.

Storyteller competes directly with the Winnebago Revel and the off-road Class B vans from Jayco and Thor, and against full-custom upfitters at the higher end. Its pitch is the middle path. It offers more consistency and factory support than a custom build, and more capability and personality than a mass-produced Class B. The brand has built a strong owner community around that position since the first vans shipped in 2019.
