Airstream Interstate 19X 1st Gen

The Interstate 19X is Airstream's adventure van, the most off-road-oriented model in the company's Interstate line of Class B coaches. Airstream, best known for its riveted aluminum travel trailers, builds the Interstate range on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and the 19X is the short-wheelbase, all-wheel-drive member built for getting off pavement.

At 19 feet 5 inches it is one of the more compact Class B vans on the Sprinter, which is the point. It runs the Mercedes 2.0-liter high-output turbodiesel four, rated 208 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque, through a 9-speed automatic, and the all-wheel-drive system is built for dirt roads and weather rather than technical trails. The interior is designed to convert. The rear seating folds into a bench layout, twin beds, or a single large sleeping platform, and the van includes a full wet bath with a shower and a galley with usable counter space.

Power comes from a lithium battery system rated 10.3 kWh, with an available upgrade to 17.2 kWh, paired with a 250-watt solar array and a 3,000-watt inverter. Fresh water capacity is 20 gallons, with 16 gallons of gray and 9 of black. GVWR is 9,050 pounds.

The 19X competes with the Winnebago Revel, the Jayco Terrain, and the Storyteller MODE. Airstream's position is its brand and its dealer network, the largest and most established of the group, along with a fit and finish pitched at the premium end of the segment. The 19X is the company's answer to buyers who want the adventure-van format without leaving the Airstream name.
